A III.sz Belgyógyászati Klinika Regionális Immunológiai Laboratóriuma, mely korábban Dr. Szabó Gábor és Dr. Kávai Mária irányítása alatt működött, 1985-ben kapta meg az Egészségügyi Minisztériumtól a jogosítványt arra, hogy nemcsak a Debreceni Egyetem, hanem az egész Hajdú-Bihar, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg és Jász-Nagykun-Szolnmok megye immunológiai betegei számára végezze a vizsgálatokat. Ez a tevékenység azóta folyamatos és állandó jellegű mennyiségi és minőségi fejlődést mutat.
